History

Celebrating 35 Years of Industry Leadership

1981–1995 – Building our Capabilities and Coverage

PEAK Technologies was incorporated in 1981 during the heart of the bar code revolution followed by strategic acquisitions of automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) value added resellers throughout the world. These strategic acquisitions created the nucleus of the new PEAK Technologies and merged the infrastructure, products, processes and people of each company to form the first significant international AIDC solutions provider.

Each value added reseller that joined the PEAK organization provided a unique technical proficiency and experience base to the new company. The union of these organizations brought together specific expertise in bar code printing, wireless radio frequency data collection systems and onsite printer service.

The acquisitions and mergers during this period included: Logon, Inc., Telpar, Inc., MESA Technology Corporation, Gentry Associates, Inc., Group Three Electronics, Inc., Concord Technologies, Inc., NACO Electronics Group, VisionData, Endata Group Limited, Innovative Products & Peripherals Corporation (IPPC), Dytec, Numeric Arts Limited, AccuScan, Mandata, Datapen Systems Limited, and ISF.

In 1992, Peak Technologies leveraged the financial success of its acquisition strategy and completed an initial public offering (IPO) and was briefly traded as a public company until it was acquired a few years later.

In 1994, Peak Technologies was named Channel Partner of the Year by NORAND and Reseller of the Year by Symbol Technologies.

In 1995, after almost a decade of building a global leader through an aggressive acquisition strategy, Peak was privileged to be named by Venture Development Corporation (VDC) as:

"The world's largest independent Distributor/VAR/Systems Integrator of Bar Code Data Capture Products."

1998–2004 – Acquisitions & Industry Accolades

In 1998, Peak Technologies began a new chapter in the evolution of the company after it was acquired by Moore Corporation Limited. Moore Corporation, a leader in the pressure sensitive labels and forms market, saw the synergy of acquiring the global leader in Bar Code Data Capture Products and Solutions to help drive label and printing supplies sales within the organization.

In 1999, the company began to capitalize on the extensive capabilities it had amassed through its acquisition strategy and began to evolve the business from a VAR model to a systems integration and solutions model.

To further build on its systems integration capabilities, the company launched a professional services practice to focus on customer's running the SAP ERP system in their supply chain operations. In another significant development in the company's history, the iconic bar code was eliminated from the Peak Technologies logo as the company repositioned to a solutions and services focus.

In 2000, Peak Technologies celebrated its growing business by winning all major AIDC vendor awards including: Symbol Technologies Top Revenue Producer, Zebra Technologies Top Reseller, Intermec Top Systems Partner, Highest Revenue and Printronix's Top Reseller.

In 2003, Moore Corporation Limited and Wallace Computer Services combined. During this year, Peak also was recognized by VAR Business magazine as one of the top 150 Largest Solutions Providers in North America.

In 2004, RR Donnelley acquired Moore Wallace which included the Peak Technologies business. During this year, as further evidence that the company continued to add solutions capabilities, Peak Technologies and its growing SAP professional services practice was among the first integrators in the country to help SAP customers achieve compliance for Wal-Mart's RFID initiative.

During this six year period in the company's history, Peak Technologies continued to grow and helped thousands of companies get their wireless data capture and barcode printing systems safely and effectively implemented. This proven success positioned PEAK Technologies to be the industry's most trusted and experienced international provider of bar code-based systems and services.

2005–2011 – Strengthening our Financials & Building our Infrastructure

In 2005, the company returned to private ownership when Platinum Equity (Beverly Hills, CA) acquired Peak Technologies from RR Donnelley. Under Platinum ownership, the company named Ross Young President and CEO of Peak Technologies Inc. with the mission of improving profitability and the balance sheet and building an infrastructure that was scalable, while streamlining processes and divesting of non-core assets.

During this time, Peak Technologies moved corporate headquarters to a new modern facility in Columbia, MD (10330 Old Columbia Road). The new facility featured a state-of-the-art technology infrastructure which allowed Peak to offer numerous improvements in customer service and communications. The company also upgraded its ERP system and implemented SAP to enable the company to address its dynamic business processes and ever-changing customer requirements and the unique opportunity to leverage efficiencies with the company's suppliers and customers.

In 2009, under Mr. Young's leadership, Peak Technologies made its first acquisition in almost fourteen years by acquiring Integrated Labeling Systems (Nashua, NH).

2011–Present – Accelerating Growth & Building Customer Value

In 2011, Peak Technologies was acquired by Keystone Capital (Chicago, IL). Keystone is focused on working hand-in-hand with their management teams to create long-term value. The combined companies officially became Peak-Ryzex on November 1, 2012.
